New Boots and Painties

Up at the crack of half-eight this morning [no lie in for me of a weekend!] and off to Manchester Tyre Services in Openshaw for Herman to have his five new Kumho Radial 857 21580 R14 shoes that I bought from Blackcircles.com fitted. The tyres that were on the van originally were pretty well worn and didnae look in great nick either. So, having been there done that before in the original Herman, I decided I’d play it safe this time and put on a new set, before I ended up sliding on my arse down the motorway some day.

I like Kumho typres. I think for one of the cheaper brands, they’re pretty decent quality. Although, having said that, they’re certainly not as cheap as they used to be. Last time I bought a set, for Herman, about two and a half years ago, they were £58,24 each. This time they were £67,10 each so, even with my tenner loyalty discount, that was a wallet-twinging £390,10 all in. Oh well, I suppose it was worth it to see the proud as Punch look on Herman2’s face, as he ran home in his new shoes.

Once home, it was back to the boring painting grind again: First of all, I took all the plastic “face furniture” off the front of Herman2 and got to work on giving his fizzer a good greening up. In between waiting for bits of his ugly mug to try, ready for their second or third coats, I got a chance to find out whether the primer I sprayed on last week had stayed on [it had!] and whether the paint would take to it OK [it did!], when I laid a few coats of paint on the primered windows. I also primered up the two side windows on the other side, ready for painting next time.
