Ireland 2015
16 Sep 2015
Off to Ireland for a week or three, to visit the oul’ Mammy for a bit and then go off into the west for a bit of camping. Well met by lamplight. New cozier Herman, with Mazza reading, of an evening I have to say, the lad played a blinder. I’m not going to tempt fate by even contemplating thinking about saying he’s almost boringly reliable –coz that’s just asking for trouble.... [ Read More ]

Ireland 2014 –Part01

Off to Ireland for a few weeks to visit the wee Mammy and do a bit of camping, ‘way out west’. No mechanical incidents to report. Herman behaved himself for the entire trip. So, instead of pctures of me crawling around, covered in oil and grime; the customary ‘place-holder’ selection of images from the expedition. Actually, that’s going to make this pretty ‘pic-heavy’, so I think I’ll split it over three posts, so each section takes less than an ice-age to download.... [ Read More ]
Ireland... and So Forth
23 Aug 2013
After the short test-run between Malin beg and St. John’s Point had proved eventless, we were reassured that it was safe to venture further afield, without having to worry about Herman causing his own version of the Torrey Canyon Disaster, any time we went near a beach anywhere. And, as it turned out, we had no further problems. So, rather than a tedious day-by-day breakdown [pun intended!] of where we went each day and when, here are a few snaps of the remainder of our sojourn in the Emerald Isle.... [ Read More ]

15 Aug 2013
Having botched together the Oil Pressure Sensor, we didn’t want to go ‘too far too soon’, until we were satisfied it was working properly to stem any leakages. So we headed off to a spot [metaphorically] just round the corner; St. John’s Point, again in Co. donegal. Happy to say that, on arrival there, my inspections showed that both Oil Pressure Sensors were ‘keeping their noses dry’. So, in lieu of anything disasterous to entertain you with, here are a couple of gratuitous shots of Herman enjoying the view.... [ Read More ]

Well, I knew it was too good to last! Malin Beg, Co, Donegal After a few days relaxing at Marble Hill strand, we headed off to another of our regular haunts; Malin Beg [also in Donegal]. It’s a bit of a trek to get there, through some pretty remote and mountainous roads. So, with the LTs’ legendary hill-climbing abilities, it always gives Herman[s] a good work out.... [ Read More ]
Yer Heid's a Marley [Hill]!
10 Aug 2013
A hundred miles or so up the Antrim Coast Road, across into Donegal over the Foyle Bridge in Derry and our first night’s camping spot was a new discovery for us: Marble hill Beach. This way... No problems from Herman, who purred like the proverbial kitten all the way and, what’s more important –no bloody oil leaks. Hurrah! Marble Hill Beach. Herman relaxing by the shore Not a bad view from the front, er.... [ Read More ]

Well, after several weeks of frantic last minute carpentering tinkering and tweaking, it was finally time to declare “it is what it is” as the day had arrived for Herman’s mission to Ireland for my annual visit home to see the oul’ mammy, with a week or so’s wild camping thrown in as well. He’s nowhere near finished yet, but at least he’s vaguely liveable-in. We’ve got a bed, a sink and a few cupboards.... [ Read More ]

Annual visit home to see the wee mammy and do a bit of camping round some of our favourite places in the west of Ireland. Believe it or not, absolutely nothing at all went wrong with Herman on the entire trip, including 200 odd mile drive to and from Scotland, at either end. Here is the obligatory selection of Herman’s holiday snaps. As ever, they are chosen for the fact Herman’s managed to get his ugly mug into shot, rather than for any artistic merit.... [ Read More ]

After the shenanigans with the exhaust pipe, which fortunately happened while I was still based at the mammy’s house and not while we were out in the middle of nowhere, Herman behaved himself in exemplary fashion for the rest of our journeying round the west of Ireland. Here are a few miscellaneous photos from the rest of the holiday. As ever they are selected not for their artistic merit, but for the fact that they happen to have Herman’s ugly mug in shot.... [ Read More ]

After my fun earlier in the morning, having to rip Herman’s fusebox apart, the boy knew better than to give me any more gyp for a while. So the drive up to Scotland that night to catch the Stranraer-Larne ferry passed off without any further hitches. Mazza making a cuppa at a 'brew stop' in a layby somewhere in Scotland Early hours of the morning. Coming off the ferry in Larne ... [ Read More ]

After spending some time with the mammy, it was off on our camping mission to the wild west coast. On the first night, we stopped off on the way at Lough Erne in Co. Fermanagh Herman relaxing by the Loughside Next morning we got up and went for our semi traditional cycle ride round the forest park, which borders the Lough and which features tracks so steep they would make Sir Edmund Hillary weep.... Well, after all the frantic work over the past week or so, getting Herman knocked into shape, it was time for his first outing as an [almost] properly completed camper. Off home to Ireland for a couple of weeks, to visit the oul’ mammy and then head out west and put Herman through his paces in the open countryside. Off to Ireland. Herman is snoozing below decks after his long drive up to Scotland to catch the ferry ... [ Read More ]
Herman in Ireland
29 Aug 2009
Well, after making our bed and table and doing a bit more tidying up inside, we were ready for the off. We insulated and panelled the bottom halves of the back doors and Mazza knocked up a dinky pair of curtains for the back windows and we were as ready as we’d ever be. I also picked up a cheapo leisure battery from Atlas Auto Electrics on Stretford Road: I couldnae resist, when I nipped into to have a mosey at their camping gear and saw they had a big pile of Platinum Leisure Plus 110aH leisure batteries for £62,50....
